44 year-old woman did not die suddenly but killed; charge pressed against her husband

In the result of comprehensive investigation conducted in the framework of the criminal case investigated in Lori Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee it was found that the 44 year-old resident of Lori did not die suddenly but she became a victim of domestic violence.
 

The call on death of the woman, born in 1972, was received on the morning of September 9, 2016; the husband called and informed that he had found his wife dead in the morning.  
 

The investigatory group immediately left for the site and urgent investigatory actions were conducted to find all circumstances of the case. Inspections of the site, the body were conducted.
 

Hemorrhages were found on different parts of the woman’s body and samples were taken from the woman, as well as from her husband and a number of examinations were commissioned to find circumstances significant for the criminal case. According to the conclusion of forensic medical examination commissioned against the husband received on 16.09.2016 no objective features of bodily injuries or their traces were found.
 

In the result of investigatory actions sufficient evidence were obtained on the allegation that some days before the incident the woman had been beaten by her husband and a criminal case was initiated in Lori Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee according to the Article 118 of RA Criminal Code, the 44 year-old dead woman was found an injured party, the latter’s father – legal successor of the injured party.
 

In September charge was pressed against the husband according to the Article 118 of RA Criminal Code. Signature not to leave was chosen as a pretrial measure against him. At the same time measures were taken to prevent crossing Armenian state border by him. As a result, on September 21 the attempt to cross the RA state border at Bagratashen border checkpoint made by him was prevented.
 

Investigatory actions of great volume were conducted in the framework of the criminal case to provide the comprehensive, objective and complete investigation of the woman’s death. On November 23 the investigative body received the conclusion of the forensic medical examination commissioned in September to find the cause of the woman’s death. According to it the woman’s death was caused by mechanical asphyxia which was conditioned by blocking the external respiratory ways by an object. Through examination other injuries were also found on the victim caused a short while before her death with blunt solid objects such as a human hand, foot.   
 

On the base of the evidence obtained through criminal case on November 24 a new charge was pressed against the victim’s husband according to the Article 118 and the Part 1 of the Article 104 of RA Criminal Code. On the same day the investigator submitted a motion to court to use detention as a pretrial measure against him.
 

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
