The Chairman of RA Investigative Committee Aghvan Hovsepyan received the Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan Andrey Sorokin

The Chairman of RA Investigative Committee today received the Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Andrey Sorokin.
 

During the meeting issues on cooperation were discussed. A. Hovsepyan highly assessed the support provided by the OSCE Office in Yerevan for provision of publicity of the activity of the Investigative Committee, as well as for development of its capacities.
 

“The Investigative Committee conducts preliminary investigation and is meant to provide the rights and legal interests of the citizens affected by crime.  The citizens have the right to know what steps are taken by law enforcement bodies, investigative bodies to reveal the crimes, to restore their rights breached in the result of the crime, as well as to provide legality”, A. Hovsepyan said stating that the official website of the Investigative Committee, which was developed with the support of OSCE, is meant to provide the citizens’ right to receive information.
 

“Due to peculiarities of the activity of the Committee, the rights of persons involved in proceeding are often limited and it is very important to strictly keep legality during it. I am confident that the provision of publicity will contribute not only to the general awareness of everyday work of the Committee, but also to the rise of awareness level of citizens on their rights”, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee emphasized.
 

Referring to the technical equipment of the Investigative Committee, A. Hovsepyan underlined the creation of necessary working conditions for all the territorial and structural subdivisions which has an essential influence on the quality and efficiency of organization of preliminary investigation of certain criminal cases. Particularly, the creation of information bases was highlighted. Due to technical support provided by the OSCE Office in Yerevan, digitalization of the materials of criminal cases is experimented in two investigative divisions of Yerevan. Based on the results of the experiment the issue of introduction of digitalization of the materials of criminal cases in all investigative territorial subdivisions will be considered due to which it will be possible to form information bases, to have internal network and electronic document flow in future.
 

The Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan Andrey Sorokin underlined that protection of human rights, as well as promotion of criminal justice system in accordance with international standards is of great importance for the OSCE and expressed hope that their efforts will contribute to it.
 

The parties discussed issues on cooperation and outlined new directions for its development.
