Preliminary investigation of the criminal proceeding initiated on killing 1 year-old child by step mother was completed in Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

In the course of the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceeding it was found out and grounded that R.E., blaming the 1 year-old child A.M., who was dependent on her and had in fact been entrusted to her care, for being the cause of discord and unpleasant circumstances within her and M.R.'s family, during January-March 2026, as well as on March 10, 2026, acting with direct intent, repeatedly applied physical violence against the bedridden child on various occasions: namely, she hit the child with hands on various parts of his body, including the head. As a result, the child lost consciousness. 

Besides, on March 15, 2026, with direct intent of illegal deprivation of life, R.E. hit the bedridden child on the head, causing bodily injuries threatening to life, which caused the latter’s death.  

By the prosecutor’s decision, public criminal prosecution was initiated against R.E. according to the Point 3 of the Part 2 of the Article 155 and the Points 3 and 6 of the Part 2 of the Article 196 of RA Criminal Code.

The step mother was detained. 

The criminal proceeding with the bill of indictment was sent to the prosecutor for approval and referral to court.
