Preliminary Investigation of Criminal Proceeding on Sexual Exploitation of two Women Completed
September 07, 2026
Through preliminary investigation conducted in the Department for Investigation of Crimes on Human Trafficking, against Sexual Immunity of Juveniles and Illegal Turnover of Drugs of General Department for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee, it was grounded that S.D., a resident of Yerevan, sexually exploited two women engaged in prostitution by setting a trap for them and creating financial dependency.
Particularly, S.D. deepened the victims’ financial dependency by selling them household goods and clothing at prices approximately five times higher than market value, while also adding the daily rental cost of a vehicle allegedly used to protect them from the cold weather, as well as the cost of a newly purchased vehicle, to their outstanding debt.
As a result, until May 2026, despite the daily payments made by the two victims to S.D., their debts continued to increase: in one case, from 9 million AMD to more than 12 million AMD, and in the other, from 3 million AMD to more than 15 million AMD.
Pursuant to factual data obtained through investigation, S.D., exploiting the victims’ financial vulnerability and dependency and keeping them under constant surveillance, compelled them, through violence or threats of violence, to remain outdoors until late at night or the following morning in order to earn and hand over the amounts of money she had set for them.
The victims were able to escape the exploitation only after seeking assistance from law enforcement authorities.
In the course of the preliminary investigation, by the supervising prosecutor’s decision, public criminal prosecution was initiated against S.D. according to the Part 1 of the Article 188 of RA Criminal Code (2 counts).
Home detention was applied as a pretrial measure against her.
The criminal proceeding with the bill of indicmtent was referred to the supervising prosecutor.
