Professional Legal Activity of Journalist of “Lragir.am” Informative Platform Hindered; Case on One Defendant Sent to Court

Preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on hindrance to professional activity of the journalist of “Lragir.am” informative platform T. Yenokyan committed on April 20 was completed on one defendant in the Investigative Division of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.
The incident of violence against the reporter took place on April 20, 2018 near the crossroad of Armenakyan Street and Saralange Avenue of Yerevan.
Pursuant to preliminary investigation data a number of citizens were protesting at the mentioned area and blocked the carriageway of the road when a number of people approached them and tried to restore traffic. The journalist of “Lragir.am” informative platform T. Yenokyan, carrying out her professional activity, filmed the incidents occurring at the mentioned area during which violence was used against her with the demand to stop filming and thus hindering her legal professional activity.
Through the criminal case investigated in the RA IC Investigative Division of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department actual data were obtained on the person having hindered the professional activity of the journalist; he is a resident of Yerevan, born in 1999.
On the base of the obtained sufficient evidence charge was pressed against 19 year-old young man according to the Part 1 of the Article 164 of RA Criminal Code. The case on his part was separated as a separate proceeding and preliminary investigation of it was completed. The criminal case on one defendant with the bill of indictment was sent to court.
Preliminary investigation of the separated part is ongoing. Investigation is conducted to provide the comprehensive, complete and objective investigation.
Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
