The Armenian Delegation Participated in the 82nd Session of the UN Committee against Torture: Armenia's 5th Periodic Report Discussed

On April 15, the study of Armenia's 5th periodic report began in Geneva, Switzerland, within the framework of the 82nd session of the Committee on the Permanent Monitoring of the Implementation of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

The delegation representing Armenia also included Melsik Shirvanyan, Head of the Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of General Military Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

Melsik Shirvanyan reported on the requirement for mandatory video recording of investigative actions introduced by the adoption of the new Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia, the work carried out by the Investigative Committee to increase the efficiency of the investigation of criminal proceedings on torture, and the legislative guarantees of independence and impartiality.

Representatives of the UN Committee against Torture have responded positively to the reforms taking place in Armenia.
