Preliminary Investigation of Criminal Proceeding Initiated on Causing Serviceman to Suicide Completed

Preliminary investigation of the criminal proceeding initiated on causing conscript serviceman N.G to suicide was completed in General Military Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

In the course of the preliminary investigation it was found out that during the period from September 27 to October 11, 2024, while on duty at a combat position, conscript soldier N.G failed to keep a promise he had given to another serviceman, A.Gh; a promise that did not arise from military service duties and was conditioned solely by the latter’s influence and authority, as a result of which A.Gh.  humiliated his honor and dignity.

As a result of the above-mentioned, on November 13, 2024 N.G. committed a suicide by hanging himself.

Besides, A.Gh. demanded explanations from several conscript servicemen for failures committed during combat duty, humiliating their honor and dignity.

During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceeding it was also found out that A.Gh., the commander of the rifle battalion, used violence against five servicemen for disciplinary violations committed during combat duty at the military position.

Public criminal prosecution was initiated against conscript serviceman according to the Point 2 of the Part 2 of the Article 522 and the Point 3 of the Part 2 of the Article 524 of RA Criminal Code. Public criminal prosecution was initiated against the commander of the rifle battalion according to the Part 5 of the Article 520 and the Point 2 of the Part 3 of the Article 520 (4 counts) of RA Criminal Code.

The criminal proceeding with the bill of indictment was sent to the prosecutor for approval and referral to court.
