Advertisements on Social Platforms about Earning Money through Investments are Fake: the RA Investigative Committee Urges
In the course of the preliminary investigation of the multi-episode criminal proceeding investigated in the Department for Investigation of Crimes against Property of General Department for Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee, it was found out that different individuals or groups present themselves as trustworthy investment organizations or specialists, offering programs that promise high returns; however, the real purpose of such activities is to mislead citizens and take possession of their financial resources.
Particularly, on various social platforms - «Facebook», «Telegram» and others, advertisements are posted about earning money through investments, leaving a link where citizens fill in their personal information. After that, the citizen is contacted through online communication tools such as “WhatsApp”, “Telegram”, and other applications. They present the conditions for earning income, mainly by creating fake investment websites with links that appear to belong to foreign organizations. The citizen registers on these sites, creates an account, and receives a phishing link where, under the pretext of topping up the account, the citizen enters his/her bank card identification details, thereby enabling the criminals to steal large and particularly large amounts of money.
Thus, the Investigative Committee urges citizens, upon receiving such advertisements or messages, to refrain from carrying out the instructed actions and to report about it to the law enforcement bodies.
