38 year-old Man, Receiving Passwords of Electronic Wallets by Cheating, Stole 2.500.000 AMD by Means of Computer from Three Citizens. Warning

Circumstances of the case on theft by means of computer in total amount of 2.500.000 AMD committed by 38 year-old resident of Artashat town from three different victims with the same criminal scheme, were found out.

Through investigation conducted in the Department of Investigation of Cybercrime and High Technology Crime of General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee it was grounded that 38 year-old man, with the intent to obtain financial means in a criminal way, in December 2021, in January and February, 2022, called three different citizens from various phone numbers. Introducing himself as a representative of «Idram» company, under the pretext of performing inspections, he asked them to provide him with the passwords of the application. After receiving them, through entering the data he got access to the «Idram» wallets in the name of the mentioned citizens.

Then through it entering the computer data, without authorization by law or contract or other lawful basis, in one of the banks operating in the RA, he online formulated several loan contracts on different amounts from 100,000 to 300,000 AMD. Then he transferred 600,000 of the total 800,000 AMD entered as allocated credit funds to the «Idram» wallet to the game accounts registered in his acquaintances’ name in three various sites but factually used by him thus committing theft in large amount by means of computer.

In another case, besides the above-mentioned, 38 year-old man also withdrew a total amount of 1,900,000 AMD from the bank card issued in the victim's name and attached to the latter's "Idram" wallet stealing it, as well.

On the base of the obtained sufficient facts charge was pressed against 38 year-old man according to the Point 3 of the Part 2 of the Article 257 of RA Criminal Code.

Preliminary investigation was completed, the materials of the criminal proceeding with the bill of indictment were sent to the prosecutor for approval and referral to court.

The RA Investigative Committee again exhorts the citizens in order to avoid becoming a victim of crimes committed by means of computer, not to provide unknown people with the entering data, especially the passwords of the bank applications, electronic wallets, regardless of the reasons. In case unknown people present themselves on behalf of banks and financial organizations and request similar data, it is necessary to carry out additional checks and adjustments by communicating with these organizations, as well as turn to the law enforcement bodies.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
