On October 23 the Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee Argishiti Kyaramyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Armenia Eric De Muynck and the first Inspector General of the Belgian Federal Police and the Directorate for International Police Cooperation Frank Debusschere.
Congratulating Eric De Muynck on taking up the position of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Armenia, the Chairman of the Committee expressed hope that his activity will contribute to development of multilateral relations between the two countries.
Argishti Kyaramyan noted that the RA Investigative Committee is interested especially in mutual legal assistance, exchange of experience and information, as well as in establishing close cooperation with the competent bodies of Belgium in fight against transnational crime. An important prerequisite for this is that all requests for legal assistance sent by the RA Investigative Committee to the competent bodies of Belgium in the previous period received a prompt response and were not left unfulfilled.
Mr. Ambassador emphasized that the decision of the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium to open an embassy in Armenia is an important impetus for deepening bilateral relations with Armenia. Expressing confidence that this will also give new impetus to cooperation in the law enforcement sector, Mr. Eric De Muynck noted, that his visit to the Investigative Committee aims to identify the needs and areas in which combining efforts could be more targeted.
Mr. Frank Debusschere added that further strengthening of ties in the law enforcement sector is a basis for developing capabilities in the fight against international crime, which is also what its future activities will be aimed at.
Within the framework of the meeting, Argishti Kyaramyan introduced the guests to the functions, priorities and reforms of the Investigative Committee in general terms.
The mechanisms and prospects for possible cooperation in the fight against cybercrime, illegal turnover of narcotic drugs, money laundering with crypto currencies, as well as illegal migration were discussed.
The agreement signed in Brussels in April 2024 between the competent bodies of the Republic of Armenia and the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (Eurojust) in the field of legal cooperation was emphasized, which takes the relations between Armenia and the EU in the criminal justice sector to a new level.
