Charge Pressed against 8 Detainees and Convicted for Escape Attempt from “Nubarashen” Penitentiary; Criminal Case Sent to Court
Preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on escape attempt from “Nubarashen” penitentiary committed by foreigners convicted and detainees was completed in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee. Charge was pressed against 8 persons.
The call on escape attempt was received on April 25, 2018, on the same day a criminal case was initiated. In the result of investigatory actions of great volume conducted within the criminal case in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases significant circumstances, as well as the frame of those having committed the alleged crime were found out.
Pursuant to preliminary investigation data, on April 25, 2018 at about 15:00 11 detainees and convicted kept in the cell N 008 of the 6th building of “Nubarashen” penitentiary accompanied by junior specialist of security division of the penitentiary went to the walking cell located in the 6th building, as prescribed by law.
At the moment the door of the walking cell was being closed one of the detainees used violence against the person who had accompanied them and forced him into the walking cell, deprived him of opportunity to resist during which another detainee seized the keys of hanging locks as well as those of entrances and cell doors of the building.
Not obeying the rules of conduct in penitentiary, the inspector’s calls to stop violence and escape attempt some of the detainees opened the doors of 6 several cells of the 6th building and appealed to foreign detainees to escape with them.
Pursuant to the evidence obtained through the criminal case 8 detainees and convicted, in total, kept in cells N 008 and 009 joined the escape attempt, all of them are foreigners (IRI citizens). Passing through the passages of the basement floor they reached the entrance door of the building N 1, used violence against the employee of security division of penitentiary. However they failed to open the entrance door and escape as the inspectors had called the employees of security division of the penitentiary who arrived in the building N 1 and prevented the escape.
On the base of the evidence obtained during pretrial proceeding charge was pressed against 8 persons according to the Point 1 of the Part 2 of the Article 34-355 of RA Criminal Code.
Preliminary investigation was completed and the criminal case with the bill of indictment was sent to court.
Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
