Criminal prosecution on two defendants terminated
In the result of comprehensive, objective and complete investigation on mass disorder that took place in Yerevan on July 20 conducted in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee criminal prosecution against two defendants was terminated.
On July 20, 2016 at about 22:00 at the crossroad of M. Khorenatsi and Qristapor streets mass disorders took place during which participants used violence against RA Police officers performing their duties at the mentioned area – they struck them with hands and feet, with different items, they threw stones and other items towards them, as well as damaged their property.
A criminal case was initiated according to the Part 2 of the Article 225 of RA Criminal Code preliminary investigation of which, by the instruction of the RA IC Chairman Aghvan Hovsepyan, was conducted in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee and necessary investigatory and operative-searching measures were conducted to identify those involved in disorder, to personalize their actions.
On the base of preliminary investigation data, in addition to other persons, in the framework of the criminal case citizens A. Vardanyan and L. Aslanyan were also involved as a defendant. Necessary investigatory actions were conducted in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee to provide the comprehensive investigation of circumstances. As a result, sufficient evidence on their complicity in mass disorders was not obtained and on December 27, 2016 the investigative body made decisions to terminate the criminal prosecution against them and to terminate the proceeding on their part.
Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
