Investigation is conducted in the Investigative Division of Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee to find out circumstances of escape attempt committed by the prisoner of “Nubarashen” penitentiary.

On June 20, 2019 at 16:25 the employee of “Nubarashen” penitentiary of the RA Ministry of Justice called Mashtots Division of the RA Police and informed that on the same day at 10:30 the prisoner of “Nubarashen” penitentiary was taken to the funeral parlor located in Silikyan district to take part in his mother’s funeral where at 16:00 the prisoner attempted to escape in somebody else’s car of “Mercedes” make. While making an escape he hit the gate of funeral parlor then crashed the car of “Mercedes” make parked near the funeral parlor and stopped. Pursuant to the report the employees of penitentiary fired warning shots into the air to prevent the prisoner’s escape.

A criminal case was initiated in the RA IC Investigative Division of Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department according to the Point 1 of the Article 183 and the Point 1 of the Part 2 of the Article 185 of RA Criminal Code. A decision to form an investigatory group was made by the Head of Investigative Division of Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts.

Pursuant to initial data, on June 20, 2019 the employees of “Nubarashen” penitentiary accompanied the prisoner of the same penitentiary to the funeral parlor located in Silikyan district to take part in his mother’s funeral.

After the funeral the prisoner started to treat the relatives in an aggressive way. From 15:45 to 16:45 being in the yard of the funeral parlor and taking advantage of the circumstance that there was a car of “Mercedes” make with its door open and engine on in the yard, he got into the mentioned car, quickly drove towards the gate and tried to pass through the open part of the gate. However, he hit the gate after which it was broken and he left the area.  

The employees of penitentiary, trying to prevent the prisoner’s escape, first appealed him to stop the car, warned that they would fire shots if he did not stop but he did not obey. Seeing that the prisoner was driving on, two of penitentiary employees fired two warning shots into the air with a pistol of “Makarov” model fixed to them. After it the car driven by the prisoner crashed another car of «Mercedes» make and stopped.

During preliminary investigation a number of investigatory actions were conducted – penitentiary employees were questioned, inspection of the scene was conducted, broken details of the car, four capsules were found and taken. The broken car of «Mercedes» make was also found.

The cameras of the funeral parlor, as well as the pistols fixed to the mentioned penitentiary employees were confiscated to commission forensic ballistic examination.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing. Measures are taken to provide the objective, complete and comprehensive investigation of circumstances of the case, to verify the circumstances mentioned in the testimonies.
