Gaining Access to Data of about 50 Citizens Using Communication Apps Person Stole about 40 Million AMD by Means of Computer
Preliminary investigation of the criminal proceeding initiated on cases of theft of about 40 million AMD committed by means of computer by 37 year-old resident of Yerevan was completed.
Through comprehensive investigation conducted in the Department of Investigation of Cybercrime and High Technology Crime of General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee it was found out and grounded that 37 year-old man, prisoner of «Armavir» penitentiary, with the intent to obtain money in a criminal way, between June, 2021 and April, 2022, gaining access to «iDram» wallets of about 5 dozens of citizens, stole 39.803.498 AMD in total, by means of computer.
Particularly, he called several people via «Viber», «WatsApp» apps and under various pretexts, among them telling as if he had transferred money by mistake to their «iDram» wallets, asked them to provide him with the passwords received on their phone numbers. After the citizens had provided him with the data, he gained access to the «iDram» wallets of the mentioned people and entering the computer data without authorization by law or contract or other legal basis, signed online agreements in their names.
From the bank cards attached to the "Idram" wallets and the money in the wallets, deposited into electronic wallets approved by them and actually managed by him, the man stole 39.803.498 AMD in total by computer means transferring the money to the game accounts of various bookmaker companies used by him.
On the base of the obtained sufficient facts charge was pressed against 37 year-old man according to the Point 3 of the Part 3 of the Article 257 of RA Criminal Code.
At the stage of preliminary investigation more than 15 million AMD was restored of the damage caused to the citizens.
Preliminary investigation was completed. The materials of the criminal proceeding, with the bill of indictment, were sent to the prosecutor for approval and referral to court.
The RA Investigative Committee exhorts the citizens not to provide unknown persons with their personal, bank data, especially passwords, regardless of reasons, in order not to become a victim of similar crimes.
