Person, having the Highest Status of Criminal Hierarchy, Wanted for Extortion of 20.000 USD from RA Citizen Handed over to RA and Detained

Within the criminal proceeding initiated in April, 2016 according to the Point 2 of the Part 3 of the Article 182 of RA Criminal Code investigated in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee the person, having the highest status of criminal hierarchy, charged with committing extortion was found and detained.
 

Pursuant to factual data obtained through investigation, the citizen of Georgia V.A. being in Armenia in March, 2016, on March 26 at about 14:00 in one of the restaurants on Komitas Avenue in Yerevan, with prior agreement with a group of people, introducing himself as a “thief in law” used violence against the person, RA citizen, who had been called to the restaurant by his instruction. He threatened to use violence against the latter’s family requiring money in particularly large amount - 20.000 USD tantamount to 9 600 000 AMD. Then getting informed that the latter had arrived in the restaurant in the car of “Range Rover Sport” make, the mentioned people required its keys as a guarantee to give them the required money. Having no choice, at V.A.’s demand the citizen handed over the keys of the car after which the car was moved from the relevant parking lot to the back part of the mentioned restaurant, and the citizen left.
 

On the base of the obtained facts on May 5, 2016 a decision was made to involve V.A. as a defendant according to the Point 2 of the Part 2 of the Article 182 of RA former Criminal Code which corresponds to the Point 3 of the Part 3 of the Article 258 of RA current Criminal Code. A motion was submitted to court to choose detention as a pretrial measure against him which was sufficed. Search was declared against V.A..
 

The latter was found in the Czech Republic and taken to custody. As a result of relevant legal procedure on June 30, 2023 he was moved to the Republic of Armenia.
 

Charge was pressed against V.A. according to the above-mentioned article of RA Criminal Code and a motion was submitted to court to consider the issue of the detention used against him once more. By the court’s decision detention for a month was used as a pretrial measure against the accused.
 

Preliminary investigation is ongoing.
