Biography

Aghvan Garnik Hovsepyan
State Councilor of Justice

He was born on January 7, 1953 in Yerevan.
In 1974 he graduated from Yerevan State University receiving a profession in "law", a qualification as a "lawyer".

From 1974 to 1978 he was an investigator at Prosecutor’s Office of Segezha region of Autonomous Republic of Karelia.
From 1978 to 1979 he was a senior investigator at Prosecutor’s Office of Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region.

From 1979 to 1981 he was an assistant to Prosecutor of Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region.

From 1981 to 1985 he was the head of the Investigative Division of Prosecutor’s Office of Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region.

From 1985 to 1986 – assistant to prosecutor of Martakert region.

From 1986 to 1989 – investigator at interdistrict Prosecutor’s Office of Artik.

From 1989 to 1998 – investigator for particularly important cases adjunct to the SSRA Prosecutor, RA Prosecutor General.

From 04.1998 to 09.1998 – head of investigative sector of the RA Prosecutor’s Office.

From 1998 to 1999 he was the RA Prosecutor General.

From 1999 to 2004 –RA Deputy Prosecutor General.

From 2004 to 2013 – the RA Prosecutor General.

From 2014 to 2018 he was the Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee.

By the RA President’s decree of March 23, 1999 Aghvan Hovsepyan was granted a degree of State Councilor of Justice.

In 2003, he was awarded the honorary title of the RA Honored Lawyer of the Republic of Armenia by the RA President.

During the working activity he was awarded departmental and other awards. In 2005 by the RA Prime Minister’s decision he was awarded a certificate of appreciation, in 2006 - the RA Prime Minister’s commemorative medal. By the RA President’s decree of 2006 he was awarded the first degree medal “For Services to the Motherland”, in 2015 – medal of Mkhitar Gosh.

He is married and has three children.
