A criminal case initiated on the accident which resulted in human death

A criminal case was initiated in Kotayq Regional Investigative Department of RA Investigative Committee on roader crash in Tsagkadzor which negligently caused a human death.

On August 1, 2015 from 15:00 to 16:00 the American Armenian Levon Thomas drove the roader “Yamaha” near Teghenis mount at the second station of the ropeway in Tsaghkadzor. The roader turned causing L. Thomas’ death.

On the same day – on August 1 a criminal case was initiated according to the Part 2 of the Article 242 of RA Criminal Code (Breach of traffic rules and operation of means of transportation which negligently caused human death). Inspection of the site and means of transportation – the roader was conducted

A decision was made to find L. Thomas as an injured party. Forensic medical examination was appointed.

It was found that Levon Thomas was a member of the “Glendale” football club of Glendale city who had arrived in Armenia with the members of the club on August 1, 2015 to participate in Pan-Armenian games. On the same day some members of the club left for Tsaghkadzor on tour, sat in the ropeway then they drove a roader.

During preliminary investigation a number of persons were interrogated, including L. Thomas’ friends, as well as the passenger who was in the roader at the moment of the crash. According to the testimony of the witnesses the roader was driven by the victim not at a very high speed while driving down the mountain. On the way the back part of the roader went up unexpectedly. As a result, the passenger jumped to the front, the roader turned and L. Thomas appeared under the it.

Investigation is conducted to find the causes of the accident. Necessary measures are taken to provide the comprehensive and complete examination of the case.
