The criminal case initiated on extortion by using violence was received in the proceeding of Aragatsotn Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee. One person was arrested.

On August 24, 2019 a citizen submitted a report in General Department of Fight against Organized Crime of the RA Police informing that a resident of Yerevan demanded to pay his acquaintance's debt to bakery threatening to use violence. Besides, on the evening of August 23, 2019 the resident of Aragatsotn together with his friends beat him and his two friends again demanding to pay the mentioned debt and the money to be told by the mentioned resident of Yerevan. Besides, the person who had submitted a report, who is also a resident of Yerevan, told that in the gas station the mentioned resident of Aragatsotn demanded to give him cigarettes for 500.000 AMD within 5 days otherwise threatening to use violence.

During preparation of materials a number of circumstances of the case were found out, one of those having committed the alleged crime was identified; he is a resident of Aragatsotn, born in 1989.

A criminal case was initiated in Ashtarak Police Division according to the Part 1 of the Article 182 of RA Criminal Code which was sent to Aragatsotn Regional Investigative Department and was received in the proceeding. One person was found the injured party.

Pursuant to initial data on August 23, 2019 at about 23:00 in the gas station operating on the road from Ashtarak to Ejmiatsin 30 year-old resident of Aragatsotn together with a group of persons beat three residents of Yerevan. Then threatening to use violence he demanded from one of them to give him cigarettes for 500.000 AMD within 5 days.

During preliminary investigation searches were conducted, forensic medical examination was commissioned.

30 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of committing extortion. The investigator's motion to use detention as a pretrial measure against him was sufficed by the court. At the same time, usage of mortgage as an optional pretrial measure was considered permissible.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing. Measures are taken to provide the comprehensive, complete and objective investigation of circumstances of the case, to find out the frame of those having committed the alleged crime, to identify them, to personalize their actions and to give criminal-legal assessment. Instructions were given to relevant subdivisions of the Police.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
