Investigation is conducted in the Investigative Division of Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee to find out circumstances of death of detainee Mher Yeghiazaryan kept in “Nubarashen” penitentiary of the RA Ministry of Justice.

On January 26, 2019 a call was received from “Nubarashen” penitentiary of the RA Ministry of Justice in Erebuni division of the RA Police informing that on the same day at 06:30 detainee Mher Yeghiazaryan who had been on hunger strike from December 5, 2018 to January 17, 2019 and was in rehabilitation phase suddenly died in the inpatient ward room of medical service unit of the penitentiary.

Considering that in the prepared materials there are sufficient bases to initiate a criminal case, in the RA IC Investigative Division of Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department a criminal case was initiated according to the Part 2 of the Article 130 of RA Criminal Code (Failure to implement or improper implementation of professional duties by medical and support personnel which through negligence caused the patient’s death).

Necessary investigatory and other procedural actions are conducted to find out all circumstances of the detainee’s death.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing.
