First committed robbery, then murder; preliminary investigation completed
Preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on murder of the resident of Yerevan, Silva Galstyan was completed in the Investigative Division of Kentron and Norq-Marash administrative districts of RA Investigative Committee. In the result of the investigatory actions conducted in the framework of the criminal case the motive of murder was found, sufficient evidence were obtained on the allegation that the crime had been committed by her grandson.
Through investigation it was particularly found that the 24 year-old man A. Momjyan temporarily lived in the apartment which belonged to his grandmother Silva Galstyan, he did not work anywhere.
According to data of preliminary investigation, he was inclined to gambling, he made bets in several bookmakers offices, lost a lot of money and had a lot of debts. Most of the mentioned debts were paid by his father.
At the latter’s demand in March, 2014 the son moved to Silva Galstyan’s country house located in Kotayq region. The young man went on gambling which was noticed by S. Galstyan. She often made remarks in relation with it because of which their relations got tense.
Through preliminary investigation sufficient evidence were obtained on the allegation that from September 1 to September 15, 2014 the young man stole her grandmother’s golden jewelry which cost 2.963 million AMD.
In order to conceal the robbery, on September 15, 2014 at about 19:00 in the apartment located in Yerevan he used violence dangerous for life against his grandmother – he pressed her neck organs and killed her. Then in the night of September 16, 2014 at about 03:00 he took S. Galstyan’s body in the latter’s “Toyota Prado” to the area near the road from the village of Garni, Kotayq region to Artashat and burnt it.
On the base of the evidence obtained during pretrial proceeding A. Momjyan was charged with committing crimes envisaged by the Point 11 of the Part 2 of the Article 104 and the Point 2 of the Part 2 of the Article 177 of RA Criminal Code.
The criminal case with the bill of indictment was sent to the prosecutor supervising the legality of preliminary investigation.
