A criminal case was initiated in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee on labor exploitation of RA citizen in Georgia’s village of Soghanlugh populated by Azeri.
In the framework of media monitoring conducted in the RA Investigative Committee publications on subjecting RA citizen to labor exploitation in Georgia’s village populated by Azeri were recorded in several information sites. Pursuant to publications during the press conference held on July 28, 2017 the representative of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that an Armenian man had been kept in Georgia’s village populated by Azeri in a slavery-like condition and had been subjected to labor exploitation for years. It was managed to return the latter to the Republic of Armenia.
By the order of Deputy Chairman of General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee Vahagn Harutyunyan materials were prepared in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases to verify the mentioned circumstances.
As a result, it was found that in 2003 the RA citizen left for the Republic of Georgia to find a job where he asked an accidental car driver to help him find a job. The mentioned person took him to the village of Soghanlugh of the Republic of Georgia populated by Azeri. With the purpose of exploiting the RA citizen, taking advantage of his vulnerability connected with the fact that he was unfamiliar to the area the members of Azeri family, living in the same village, kept him in a slavery-like condition up to May 7, 2017; that is they made him work without any salary in their land, as well as in the lands of neighboring residents and the house roof was given to him for the residence where the exploitation victim spent nights on cardboard boxes.
On August 10 a criminal case was initiated in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee according to the Article 132 of RA Criminal Code. Preliminary investigation is conducted.
