Preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on banditry committed against the citizen of the Republic of India is ongoing in the First Investigative Division of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

It was earlier informed that on June 8, 2022 at about 21:30 two persons, threatening to use weapon, stole pursuant to initial data 85.000-90.000 USD and 35.000 AMD from the apartment of the citizen of India and fled. 

In the result of large-scale urgent investigative and other procedural actions as well as measures taken jointly together with the employees of the RA Police circumstances significant for the case, including the persons having committed the alleged crime - 22 and 29 year-old residents of Yerevan were identified and arrested.

During some hours the investigative group through necessary investigative and other procedural actions found out that in the period preceding the banditry – some days before theft as well had been committed in the mentioned apartment.  

Particularly, through investigation data were obtained on the allegation that one of those having committed the alleged crime – 22 year-old young man, learning from a friend, who had visited the apartment of the citizen of India to repair the gas boiler, that the latter was keeping money in particularly large amount in his apartment, on May 31 visited the victim’s apartment with the mentioned friend and distracting the latter’s attention stole 30 000 USD. 

Then 22 year-old young man materially interesting the same friend tried to persuade him to steal the rest of the money available in the mentioned apartment but the latter did not agree.

In order to carry out his criminal intention, 22 year-old young man turned to another friend – 29 year-old resident of Yerevan and reaching prior agreement with him, on June 8, 2022 at about 20:30 with masks and an air gun visited the apartment of the citizen of India where threatening the latter with the air gun demanded that he should give them the money available in the apartment. Receiving a refusal but being aware about the money available in the apartment, the persons having committed the alleged crime found and stole about 45.000 USD. Then using violence against the victim they tied his feet with a belt, locked the apartment door with the key on the door and fled.

In the result of investigative and other procedural actions conducted by the investigative group during preliminary investigation, 29 year-old man, who had been arrested, cooperated with the investigative body and presented a part of the money kept in his apartment stolen from the citizen of the Republic of India 42.100 USD.

The actions of each of those involved in the above-mentioned crimes were personalized by the investigative body.

On the base of the obtained sufficient evidence charge was pressed against one of those having committed the alleged crime according to the Point 1 of the Part 3 of the Article 177 of RA Criminal Code, against the other – according to the Point 1 of the Part 3 of the Article 177 and the Point 1 of the Part 3 of the Article 175 and against the third – according to the Point 1 of the Part 3 of the Article 175 of RA Criminal Code. Detention was used as a pretrial measure against them.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
