Forester arrested on suspicion of abusing official authority
In the framework of the criminal case on illegal tree felling committed at the area of the 10th section of Spitak’s forestry investigated in Lori Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee the forester was arrested.
On October 20, 2017 the employees of Gugarq forestry branch of “Hayantar” SNCO found a case of illegal felling of different types of trees at the area of artificial pine grove of protective significance located at the 10th section of Spitak’s forestry.
Through materials prepared on the base of the record N 002202 made by the employees of Gugarq forestry branch of “Hayantar” SNCO data were obtained on the allegation that in October, 2017 408 trees of different types were illegally cut down at the area of the 10th section of Spitak’s forestry.
On October 24, 2017 a criminal case was initiated in the Prosecution Office of Lori Region according to the Part 3 of the Article 296 and the Part 2 of the Article 315 of RA Criminal Code which was received in the proceeding of Spitak Investigative Division of Lori Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.
In the result of investigatory actions of great volume a number of circumstances significant for the criminal case were found, actual data were obtained on the allegation that the forester of the 10th section of Spitak’s forestry, using his official authority against service interests, did not carry out his official duties and allowed 408 trees of different types – pine, ash-tree, elm, cherry-tree to be cut down without appropriate permission. Then in order to conceal the fact of illegal tree felling he instructed to cover the stubs of illegally cut trees with soil. Pursuant to initial calculation the inflicted material damage is 25.444.500 AMD.
On October 29 the forester was arrested on suspicion of committing an act envisaged by the Part 2 of the Article 308 of RA Criminal Code.
Preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing. Active investigatory actions are conducted to find the frame of those possibly involved in illegal tree felling.
