Preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on materially interesting two or more people, among them the president of the student council of National Agrarian University of Armenia for participation of the students of the same university in opposition rallies was completed in the Division of Investigation of Grave Crimes of Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

In the result of necessary measures taken during preliminary investigation the circumstances of the case were found out.

As it was earlier informed, on May 9, 2022 a recording entitled “1000 AMD for each student, lecturer of Agrarian University induces chairman of student council to make students take part in opposition rallies offering 1000 AMD for each student” was published in one of the news sites and related to this fact a criminal case was initiated.

Through investigation it was found out that Avetik Chalabyan, being an active member of movements organized by the opposition and aiming to involve also the students of National Agrarian University of Armenia in the rallies, protests for material interest, reaching prior agreement with one of the lecturers of the same university and another person, on May 4, 2022 met the president of the student council and offered to mobilize about 2000 students for 2.000.000 AMD - 1000 AMD for each student.

On the base of the obtained sufficient evidence charge was pressed against the lecturer of National Agrarian University of Armenia and Avetik Chalabyan. Detention was used as a pretrial measure against the latter.

Preliminary investigation was completed and the materials of the criminal proceeding were sent to the prosecutor supervising the legality of preliminary investigation for its approval and referral to the court.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
