In the result of investigative and other procedural actions as well as necessary measures taken jointly together with the employees of the RA Police conducted in Shirak Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee all circumstances of using violence against elderly men during the car march organized by the political opposition on Yerevan highway of Gyumri were found out.

Pursuant to factual data obtained through investigation, on May 8, 2022 at about 12:30 a group of young men arrived in Gyumri in the car march to take part in the rally in Gyumri. When the cars got to the elderly men standing at the public transport stop, the young men called the elderly men to join them. Getting a negative answer the young men made insulting remarks then getting out of the car approached the elderly men, started arguing with them, scolded, hit them with hands and feet on different parts of their bodies.

It should be noted that the men affected by the criminal acts of the above-mentioned young men are 74, 56, 72 and 84 year-old citizens.

On the base of the obtained sufficient evidence charge was pressed against 7 persons according to the Point 1 of the Part 3 of the Article 258 of RA Criminal Code. Five of the defendants were detained.

Preliminary investigation was completed and the criminal case with the motion to confirm the bill of indictment and send it to court was sent to the prosecutor.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
