In the result of necessary investigatory and other procedural actions conducted within the criminal case investigated in Vayots Dzor Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee a number of circumstances of hooliganism committed in Gndevaz were found out, charge was pressed against one person, two more persons were arrested.

The call on beating 57 year-old man by a group of people in Gndevaz village was received on August 25, 2019.

Through preliminary investigation of the criminal case investigated in Vayots Dzor Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee it was found out that on August 24, 2019 at about 22:30 in the central part of Gndevaz village a group of people protesting against exploitation of Amulsar gold mine by “Lydian Armenia” CJSC shouted for several times “Amulsar is ours, Amulsar will not become a mine”. 57 year-old man who was nearby made a remark demanding not to shout at the late hour and not to disturb people after which 24 year-old resident of Jermuk, taking the remark to heart, attacked the man and pushed him to the ground. Then, in order to emphasize their privilege, out of hooliganism 24 and 22 year-old residents of Jermuk hit him with feet for numerous times after which their friends joined them. Hearing the noise 57 year-old man’s brother approached them and tried to calm them down during which he fell and hurt his right ear.

On the base of the obtained evidence charge was pressed against 24 year-old young man according to the Point 1 of the Part 3 of the Article 258 of RA Criminal Code. A motion was submitted to court to use detention as a pretrial measure against him.

In the result of necessary measures taken within the criminal case two more residents of Jermuk, born in 1993 and 1997, were arrested on suspicion of committing a crime envisaged by the Point 1 of the Part 3 of the Article 258 of RA Criminal Code.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing. Measures are taken to identify others involved in the incident, to find and bring them to the investigative body.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
