Investigative bodies are apolitical bodies and officials must demonstrate political restraint

Investigative bodies are apolitical bodies and the officials cannot be a member of any party and be engaged in political activity. The Article 10 of the RA Law «On RA Investigative Committee» defines that the official of the Investigative Committee is in each case obliged to demonstrate political restraint and neutrality.

The Article 8 of the RA Law «On Freedom of Demonstrations» which defines the restrictions of organizing demonstrations and participating in them, directly states that “Judges, prosecutors, investigators as well as officials of armed forces, national security, police and other militarized bodies shall demonstrate political restraint and neutrality while participating in demonstrations”. They do not have the right to organize such demonstrations which can doubt their political neutrality.

Today during the demonstration in Republic Square the investigator of the Investigative Division of Malatia-Sebastia administrative district went to the platform and made a political statement.

Considering the investigator’s interference and participation in political procedures unacceptable service investigation is prepared in the Internal Security Department of the RA Investigative Committee.

Pursuant to the Article 178 of the RA Constitution the investigative bodies shall organize and conduct pretrial proceeding which was done, is done and will be done by the Investigative Committee.
