Preliminary Investigation of Criminal Case Initiated on Murders Committed by Citizens of Republic of Georgia Completed

Preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated on 26 year-old man’s murder in Gegharkunik province, 71 year-old woman’s murder in Yerevan, as well as concealing murder was completed in the Department of Investigation of Crimes against Human of General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee. Charge was pressed against three citizens of the Republic of Georgia.

It was earlier informed that the body of 26 year-old young man Zhora Martirosyan with traces of violence on the head was found on May 31, 2018 on the back seat of the car “Vaz 21074” parked on the road from Sevan peninsula to Sevan’s governmental country house.

A criminal case was initiated in the RA IC Gegharkunik Regional Investigative Department according to the Part 1 of the Article 104 of RA Criminal Code preliminary investigation of which was conducted in the RA IC General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases.

In the result of investigatory actions of great volume and measures taken together with the employees of General Department of Fight against Organized Crime of the Police a number of circumstances of murder were found out.

Particularly, on the day of the case 26 year-old young man, who was a resident of Gyumri, in his car of «VAZ 21074» make transported foreigners – Georgian spouses and their friend to Sevan. Through investigation it was found out that on September 12, 2017 Georgian spouses crossed RA border illegally with prior agreement bypassing the checkpoints of RA state border without a proper permission.

Through investigation it was found out that on the way the passengers used alcohol, argued and Zh. Martirosyan made a remark to them.

It was grounded that out of mercenary motives, with the purpose of illegal deprivation from life the spouses hit the young man on different parts of his body with stones for numerous times. Husband sat on the young man’s feet, wife held the back part of the young man’s head and they hit the latter on the head with stones causing bodily injuries incompatible with life. Their friend witnessed it.

Then they took 26 year-old driver’s mobile phone, took the golden ring with a diamond off his finger and returned to Yerevan. In order to conceal the traces the spouses washed their bloody clothes and on the next day in one of the trade centers of Yerevan sold the golden ring they had stolen.

We remind that besides Zh. Martirosyan’s murder another murder committed by the Georgian spouses had also been disclosed.

On January 15 at about 00:00 the body of the resident of Yerevan Anahit Alexanyan, born in 1947, who lived alone, was found lying in her bed. Through investigation data were obtained that the woman had become a victim of murder.

During preliminary investigation a number of circumstances, the motive of the woman’s murder were found out.

Thus, Georgian spouses got acquainted with Anahit Alexanyan through their acquaintance living in Armenia. The woman, who had been a doctor, was engaged with traditional medicine after retiring. The spouses turned to her allegedly to solve their health problems after which they got in close relations with her. Getting informed that 71 year-old woman had saved money, as well as had golden and silver jewelry they planned to steal them.

For this purpose on the morning of January 14 they were hosted by A. Alexanyan, they had dinner together, used alcohol during which with the purpose of illegal deprivation from life the man approached her from the back, held her mouth with one hand to prevent her to call for help and started to strangle her with the other hand. In order to break A. Alexanyan’s resistance, he instructed his wife to hold the woman’s feet and he went on strangling her.

In order to imitate sudden death in her room they took off her clothes, put her in bed lying, put her clothes in order using gloves to conceal traces.

Pursuant to preliminary investigation data the persons having committed the alleged crime stole golden and silver jewelry of 1 891 000 AMD, as well as other things from the old woman’s apartment.

On the base of the obtained sufficient evidence charge was pressed against spouses according to the Points 7 and 8 of the Part 2 of the Article 104 (2 counts) and the Part 2 of the Article 329 of RA Criminal Code. Charge was pressed against their friend according to the Part 1 of the Article 334 of RA Criminal Code.

Preliminary investigation was completed and the criminal case with the bill of indictment was sent to prosecutor supervising the legality of preliminary investigation.

Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
