Investigation is conducted in Syunik Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee to find out the circumstances of smuggling and selling narcotic drugs in particularly large amount.

On January 11, 2024 a report was received in Syunik Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee from Kapan Police Division of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs informing that within the framework of operative –intelligence measures a car of «Chrysler» make was stopped at the police station near Chakaten settlement, on suspicion of selling narcotic drugs in particularly large amount. Through the search conducted in the car various drug-like substance weighing more than 10 kg were found. The driver and passenger of the above-mentioned car were arrested on the base of reasonable suspicion of smuggling and selling narcotic drugs in particularly large amount and were brought to the investigative body.

With regard to the case a criminal proceeding was initiated in Syunik Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee according to the Point 2 of the Part 3 of the Article 393 and the Point 2 of the Part 3 of the Article 399 of RA Criminal Code.

It was found out that the total weight of the drug-like substance found in the car cabin was 12 kg.

Pursuant to the result of the forensic expertise, about 4,6kg of it was «Methamphetamine», 200gr was «Heroine». Forensic expertise is also commissioned to find out the composition of substance similar to 6.2kg «Marijuana», as well as «Opium» and « Ecstasy» types of narcotic drugs.

In the result of investigative actions, as well as operative-intelligence measures it was found out that the driver and passenger of the car, with prior agreement with IRI citizen or citizens, not identified yet, on January 11 left for the appropriate area of the Armenian-Iranian border from where they took drugs smuggled from the territory of the Republic of Iran in three large plastic bags, put them into the car cabin and left. However, on the way back, in the result of operational data realization, they were caught by the police officers.

On the base of the obtained facts public criminal prosecution was initiated against them and charge was pressed against the mentioned two persons according to the Point 2 of the Part 3 of the Article 393 of RA Criminal Code (illegal turnover of narcotic drugs in particularly large amount for the purpose of sale) and the Point 2 of the Part 3 of the Article 46-399 (attempt of smuggling of narcotic drugs in particularly large amount). Detention was chosen as a pretrial measure against them.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing. Necessary measures are taken to find out the source of procurement of narcotic drugs, as well as the whole frame of illegal turnover of narcotic drugs.

The relevant subdivision of the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was given assignments.
