Cases of Illegal Turnover of Narcotic Drugs Disclosed; Charge Pressed against Five Persons
Investigation is conducted in Syunik Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee to find out circumstances of keeping, transporting and contraband narcotic drugs in particularly large amount with the purpose of selling, as well as illegal turnover of narcotic drugs.
In the result of necessary measures taken jointly by the employees of the RA IC Syunik Regional Investigative Department and Kapan Police Division on October 15, 2019 at about 18:20 a resident of Yerevan, born in 1955, was apprehended while crossing the state border of the Republic of Armenia and Islamic Republic of Iran through Meghri checkpoint on suspicion of keeping, transporting and contraband narcotic drugs in particularly large amount with the purpose of selling.
A criminal case was initiated according to the Point 2 of the Part 3 of the Article 266 and the Point 1 of the Part 4 of the Article 267.1 of RA Criminal Code.
In the result of investigatory and other procedural actions conducted during preliminary investigation a number of circumstances were found out.
Pursuant to investigation data, on October 15, 2019 at about 18:20 the resident of Yerevan, born in 1955, illegally kept, procured and smuggled narcotic drugs in particularly large amount of “Marijuana” type - 102,15 gr., “Opium” type - 62,19 gr., as well as crystal material like “Methamphetamine” – 60.64 gr., procured illegally at the area of the Islamic Republic of Iran and kept under his clothes fixed on the body. Through his personal search the mentioned narcotic drugs were found and confiscated on the same day.
In the result of investigatory actions and operative-intelligence measures other criminal manifestations of illegal procuring, keeping, selling of narcotic drugs committed by four more residents of Syunik province were found. Actual data were obtained that the mentioned persons had procured narcotic drugs from 64 year-old resident of Yerevan, as well as from each other.
During preliminary investigation a number of investigatory actions were conducted – searches in the residences and transport means of the above-mentioned persons were conducted, forensic chemical, forensic medical examinations were commissioned, the hair samples of the defendants were received and toxic-chemical examination was commissioned.
On the base of the sufficient evidence obtained through the criminal case charge was pressed against the resident of Yerevan according to the Point 2 of the Part 3 of the Article 266 and the Point 1 of the Part 4 of the Article 267.1 of RA Criminal Code.
Charge was pressed against two of the mentioned four persons for illegal procurement and keeping of narcotic drugs without purpose of selling according to the Point 2 of the Part 2 of the Article 268, against two of them – for illegal procurement and keeping of narcotic drugs with purpose of selling according to the Point 2 of the Part 2 of the Article 266 of RA Criminal Code.
The investigator submitted a motion to court to use detention as a pretrial measure against the five defendants. It was sufficed.
Preliminary investigation is ongoing. Necessary measures are taken to find out the whole frame of illegal turnover of narcotic drugs as well as the source of procurement, to identify the person selling it, as well as to find out other circumstances significant for the criminal case.
Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
