Footballer Brothers Arrested on Suspicion of Using Violence against Police Officers and Hooliganism
On 30 August, 2020 at 23:20 the captain of the RA Police submitted a report informing that based on the call received on the same day at about 23:15 they left for “Cascade” where they noticed two young men dragging two police officers. The mentioned young men scolded loudly for a long time, one of them tore the shoulder strap of one of the police officers. With the help of the officers of State Protection Service they were apprehended and identified; they are brothers – footballers of the Armenian National Team. It was also found out that during the quarrel one of them had punched one of the police officers on the face causing bodily injury.
A criminal case was initiated in the Central Division of the RA Police according to the Part 1 of the Article 316 (violence against a representative of authorities) and the Part 1 of the Article 258 (hooliganism) of RA Criminal Code which was sent to the Investigative Division of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee and received in proceeding.
4 police officers were found the injured party, a number of people were questioned, the clothes of those injured were confiscated, forensic medical examinations were commissioned.
Footballer brothers were arrested.
Preliminary investigation is ongoing.
Note; Everyone charged with alleged crime offence shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law.
