On May 20, 2016 police officers who had arrived at the site of the road accident at the beginning of Tsitsernakaberd highway, Yerevan found two rifles of AK-74 type with 120 bullets in the car involved in the accident. The driver and passenger of the mentioned car were apprehended to the police station on suspicion of illegal keeping and transportation of weapons.
 

A criminal case was initiated according to the Part 2 of the Article 235 of RA Criminal Code. In the result of investigatory actions conducted in General Department of Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the RA Investigative Committee the driver and the passenger were identified, circumstances of circulation of rifles were found.
 

Particularly, in the result of investigatory and operative-intelligence joint measure of great volume conducted in the framework of the criminal case it was found that Zhirayr Sefilyan with a group of people had planned to seize buildings, communication facilities, including television tower of Yerevan through armed groups in the framework of which he had organized illegal procurement, transportation of weapons and ammunition, as well as their illegal keeping in different places by a group of people. Moreover, the members of the group had planned to carry out some criminal actions in April in the period following the war.
 

Two weapons and ammunition circulated illegally by a group organized by Zhirayr Sefilyan were found at the site of the road accident described above that took place on May 20, 2016.
 

On the base of the evidence obtained through preliminary investigation of the criminal case charge was pressed against eight persons for illegal procurement, transportation and keeping weapons and ammunition by a group of persons. Six of them were detained, search was declared against one of them.
 

The charges were grounded by numerous evidence obtained in the framework of the case, as well as by confessions of group members they had made in their testimonies.
 

On May 20, 2016 Zhirayr Sefilyan was arrested on suspicion of organizing illegal procurement, transportation and keeping of weapons and ammunition by a group of people.
 

Preliminary investigation is ongoing.
