On December 6, 2018 at 7:20 a call was received in Erebuni Division of the RA Police informing that on the same day at about 4:40 the escape of 33 year-old and 25 year-old prisoners of penitentiary was prevented. Immediately after the call the investigatory group of the RA IC Investigative Division of Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department left for the scene.
A criminal case was initiated in the RA IC Investigative Division of Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts of Yerevan Investigative Department according to the Points 1, 2 and 3 of the Part 2 of the Article 34-355 of RA Criminal Code. An investigatory group was formed.
In the result of urgent investigatory actions, through inspection of the scene it was found out that the prisoners of “Nubarashen” penitentiary, born in 1985 and 1993, reaching prior agreement on apparent escape, having broken the external wall of the cell located on the second floor of the penitentiary, appeared at the prohibited zone. Taking advantage of poor visibility because of foggy weather, getting over the first wire barrier they broke into the control trace path, then isolating the second barrier with high voltage with clothes they got over it, however the alarm system was on.
Immediately after the alarm the employees of the relevant department of the penitentiary approached the mentioned section.
The penitentiary employees warned them about using weapon if they did not obey their legal demand and tried to prevent the escape.
However, one of the prisoners attacked the employee and using violence dangerous for his health, threatening with an item used as a weapon demanded not to hinder them. But the penitentiary employees overcame the prisoner’s resistance thus preventing their escape.
Through inspection of the scene a gun imitation made from bread dough and painted black which did not differ from a real gun and was used as a weapon, two metal bars used to break the cell wall, a kitchen knife and other things were found and confiscated.
Besides, a sport bag with a jacket, adhesive tape and a mobile phone in it was found at the area adjacent to the place where the prisoners were neutralized.
Blood-like traces were found at the area of wire barriers which were probably formed in the result of sustaining bodily injuries by those who had attempted to escape.
Preliminary investigation is ongoing. Necessary investigatory and other procedural actions are conducted to find out all circumstances of the case, to provide the comprehensive, complete and objective investigation.
