Issues of Development of Experimental Medical DNA Database in Armenia Discussed at the RA Investigative Committee with Experts from the USA

The delegation of American GTH Consulting Company was hosted today at the RA Investigative Committee. They were accompanied by Argam Hovsepyan, Director of the RA National Bureau of Expertise.  

GTH Consulting Company is known in the world as a company specialized in the development of legislation for the creation and management of forensic DNA databases, which cooperates with forensic DNA laboratories of various countries, law enforcement bodies and other related structures.

The delegation has been received by Arsen Ayvazyan, Deputy Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee. He welcomed the company's specialists for participating in the international forum dedicated to the issues of creating and developing a forensic DNA database in accordance with international requirements, starting in Yerevan, and for the initiative to learn about the needs of Armenia in the mentioned field.

Arsen Ayvazyan has underlined that the RA Investigative Committee, as the largest investigative body in Armenia, plays a key role in the detection and collection of crime traces, including DNA traces, in our country. According to Mr. Ayvazyan, the Investigative Committee attaches importance to improvement of legal basis for the development of the forensic DNA database in Armenia in line with international standards and is willing to participate in it within its powers.

Argam Hovsepyan, Director of the RA National Bureau of Expertise has added that the forum starting in Armenia with participation of foreign specialized organizations, in which all the RA interested structures will take part, among them the RA Investigative Committee, will give a new impetus to the process of developing a systemized database in Armenia.

Tim Schellberg, President of GTH Consulting Company, in his turn, has noted that they are ready to transfer the experience of their expert involvement in many countries of the world to Armenia as well, which will be a significant contribution in terms of prevention and detection of recidivism, saving resources on the part of the state.

During the meeting the functions of investigative bodies in Armenia, the legal processes carried out so far regarding commissioning of expertise and the applicability of the data obtained by them, the DNA database, as well as issues of mutual interest were discussed.
