Results and Prospective of Cooperation with INL Office of U.S. Embassy Discussed at Investigative Committee (photos)

The Deputy Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee Arsen Ayvazyan received today the delegation of the US Embassy. INL/EA Armenia Program Officer of the U.S. State Department Rachel Cook, INL Office Director of the U.S. Embassy to Armenia Alexis Haftvani, INL Office Project Manager Kristina Afoyan were in the delegation.

The RA IC Deputy Chairman first congratulated Mrs. Rachel Cook on taking up the position of INL/EA Armenia Program Officer, wished success and expressed hope that her activity would further promote Armenian-American cooperation in the field of law enforcement.

Arsen Ayvazyan considered significant the programs aimed at institutional strengthening of protection of human rights in law enforcement system of Armenia, improvement of capacities of the RA Investigative Committee which are multilayered ranging from technical support to professional skills development.

The practical significance of the procedure of introduction of the new system of electronic preliminary investigation, equipping the RA IC laboratory for fight against cybercrimes with modern and powerful technical means, as well as trainings aimed at improvement of professional skills for criminal legal fight against domestic violence, cybercrimes and trafficking was especially underlined.

INL/EA Armenia Program Officer of the U.S. State Department Rachel Cook considered the reality of ensuring higher guarantees of human rights protection in new criminal and criminal procedure codes in Armenia as an important achievement and attached importance to their practical application.

Mrs. Alexis Haftvani also expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness of the cooperation between the office managed by her and the RA Investigative Committee. She emphasized the active involvement of the RA Investigative Committee in bilateral and multilateral discussions aimed at solution of different problems implemented by the initiative of the Embassy, enhancement of protection level of criminal procedural rights of separate vulnerable groups.

During the meeting new opportunities and directions for increasing cooperation were discussed in details. Considering the necessity of deepening the cooperation between the law enforcement bodies of the two countries, development of capacities in increasing the effectiveness of investigative requests within the framework of the legal mutual aid, transnational crimes, especially illegal turnover of narcotic drugs, trafficking, cybercrimes, money laundering and cases of use of crypto currencies in it, the implementation of new programs in those directions was considered a priority by both sides.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
